Vaccine gifted by India to arrive in Dhaka on Thursday

Eastern Times Correspondent, Dhaka,19 January : The 20 lakh doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine, gifted by India to Bangladesh, will arrive in Dhaka on 21 January, Prothom Alo reports today quoting source in India High Commission.

Earlier on Monday, quoting the High Commission, Directorate General of the health directorate Professor Abul Bashar Mohammad Khurshid Alam said, “Bangladesh will receive 20 lakh doses of Covid vaccine from India as a gift. The vaccine shots will arrive by air cargo.”

Bangladesh government in November last year signed a deal with the Serum Institute of India to buy 3 crore doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine.

The minister said the first lot of the purchase will arrive within 26 January.

The inoculation in Bangladesh will begin within a week of the vaccine arrival. In Dhaka, there will be 300 vaccination centres to carry out the immunisation
