Eastern Times, Bangluru 24 January: The National Confederation of Human Rights Organisations (NCHRO) organises the Mukundan C Menon Award since 2006 every year. The award is instituted by NCHRO in memory of late Mr. Mukundan C Menon, the founding General Secretary to recognize individuals, institutes or organizations and people working in the area of human rights, art, media, writing, environment, etc.
The Organiser and the General Secretary of the NCHRO, Karnataka committee Adv. Mohammed Farukh said in a press release that in the year 2020, prominent Human Rights activist Fr. Stan Swamy has been given the award.
He said that Fr. Stan Swamy in Ranchi, Jharkhand works with an organisation named Bagaaicha and questions the anti-people policies of the government and the corporate.
A few months ago, the NIA arrested Fr. Stan Swamy and now he is in Taloja jail in the fabricated case of Bhima Koregaon. Currently, he is locked up in jail. In his absence, Fr. Xavier Director of Indian Social Institute, Bangalore, has received the award as a representative of Father Stan Swami. The award includes rupees 25,000 and a citation.
Adv Balan, senior lawyer Karnataka gave award to Fr Xavior in this programme, National Treasurer Adv K P Muhammed Shareef Chair the programme and General Secretary introduces about Mukundan C Menon award.
Hundreds of activists from various parts of the country attended. Vidhya from Delhi, Dr.Ranjan Solomon from Goa, Shri Vilayodi Shivan Kutty from kerala etc attended.
