Indian citizen with fake visa arrested at Bangladesh airport

Eastern Times Correspondent, Dhaka, 27 January : An Indian citizen has been arrested with a fake UK visa at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) for trying to enter the UK by a flight of the Biman Bangladesh airlines.

The Armed Police Battalion (APBn) arrested the Indian named Shakthivel on Sunday.

Immigration police sources said that his behaviour was suspicious and his documents also looked fake. So, they contacted the UK embassy to crosscheck his information.

Alamgir Hossain, additional superintendent (ops and media) of airport APBn said: “The UK embassy was contacted as his visa was suspected to be fake and the embassy confirmed the same. Later, a case was filed against him at the airport police station and he was handed over to the police.”

Shakthivel was born in Tamil Nadu, India but he lives in Calcutta.

He entered Bangladesh through Benapole on January 20, said an immigration official.
