Eastern Times, Guwahati: Alleging that BJP and RSS are trying to divide Assam, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has said that his party will abide by every principle of the Assam Accord and not implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) if it returns to power in Assam.
“All Congress workers and I will uphold the principles of the Assam Accord; we will not deviate an inch from it,” he said.
On the context of the controversial CAA, Rahul said that if the Congress wins the next assembly elections, the law will not be enforced in the state under any circumstances.
Rahul further mentioned that if Assam is divided, Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Union Home Minister Amit Shah will not be affected.
However, the people of Assam and the rest of the country will have to bear the brunt of it.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi looted public money during the Covid-19 pandemic and waived off the loans of two of his friends, he said.
Lashing out at Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonwal as well, Rahul said that a TV can be run by a remote, but chief minister cannot be controlled remotely.
This Chief Minister listens to the Centre and instructions from RSS headquarters in Nagpur. The Assamese will not get any benefit if they get such a Chief Minister again. Young people need a chief minister who will give them jobs.
“You need your own chief minister who will listen to your problems”. Referring to Assam, which has been plagued by violence in the past, Rahul Gandhi added that it was the Congress that brought peace back to Assam.
