BNP hold countrywide protest on Wednesday Bangladesh

Eastern Times Correspondent, Dhaka, 17 February : Bangladesh’s main opposition party BNP is going to start a movement to overthrow the Hasina government. They signaled the movement by staging countrywide protests on Wednesday.

The party will hold its pre-scheduled protest rallies in all cities and district headquarters across the country, barring Barishal division, said a party press release.

In Dhaka, the demonstration will be organised by Dhaka south and north city units of the party in front of the National Press Club at 10:00 am, the release said.

Meanwhile, the party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a press conference at its Naya Paltan central office on Tuesday accused the Election Commission of destroying the election system in the country.

Like the last general elections, the ruling party men also captured the voting centres in the local government elections, Rizvi said.

Rizvi appreciated the view of Election Commissioner Mahboob Talukdar, who recently expressed his desire to resign from his post for the welfare of the country.

The Chief Election Commissioner must face trial for his misdeeds and destroying the election system, Rizvi said.

In the municipal elections held on February 14, the ruling party men captured the voting centres in Thakurgaon, Ramgati, Trishal, Narsingdi, Madhabdi, Nagarkanda and Taherpur, Rizvi said.

Central leaders of the party, Abul Khayer Bhuiyan, Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu among others attended the press conference.
