Bangladesh’s wheel of economy is in motion : Hasina

Eastern Times, Correspondent, Dhaka, 22 November: The wheel of Bangladesh’s economy is in motion as the government has built a huge road network across the country, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said.

She also said the implementation of the Padma Bridge would bring about a revolutionary change in the country’s road communication system.

The premier made the remarks while inaugurating three bridges in Magura, Jessore, and Narayanganj districts and Independence Square in Pabna from Ganabhaban in Dhaka, via videoconference, on Sunday morning.

The Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Co-operatives arranged the program where public representatives and leaders of Bangladesh Awami League from the districts also participated virtually.

The prime minister again urged all to maintain health guidelines to tackle the coronavirus pandemic, the prime minister said: “You need to protect yourself as well as ensure the safety of others.”

She also said her government successfully dealt with the hazard of the coronavirus.

Stating that the government is ready to deal with the new wave of the virus, she called upon all to be conscious about Covid-19.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was born in Tungipara of Gopalganj, a southern district of Bangladesh, said after completion of the Padma Bridge, there will be a revolutionary change in the communication systems of the country’s south-western districts.

“The three bridges built on rural roads of Magura, Narayanganj, and Jessore will play a tremendous role in terms of socio-economic transformation of the areas.”

In her 20-minute speech, the premier also remembered some veteran Awami League leaders of Pabna, Magura, Narayanganj, and Jessore.

“I still recall the contribution of freedom fighter Rafiqul Islam Bakul to the party in difficult times.”

LGRD Minister Tazul Islam, its Senior Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed, and industrialist Anjan Chowdhury, among others, gave speeches in the program.

Dr Ahmad Kaikaus, principal secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office, conducted the program.
