Bangladesh's confirmed cases cross the 8 lakh mark

Eastern Times Correspondent, Dhaka, 31 May 2021: Bangladesh’s confirmed coronavirus cases, on Monday, crossed the 8,00,000 mark. With an upward trend in daily cases, 1,710 new infections were registered in the last 24 hours while the fatalities rose to 36 in the country.

These additions took the infection tally to 8,00,540 and the death toll to 12,619, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Besides, the positivity rate dropped to 9.42% and the death rate remained unchanged to 1.58% in the preceding 24 hours.

Meanwhile, 18,178 samples were tested in 503 labs across the country.

Among the latest day’s victims, 25 were men, and 11 were women. Of the victims, 34 died in different hospitals across the country while two at home.

Moreover, 12 of the deceased hailed from the Chattgram division, nine from Dhaka, eight from Rajshahi, six from Khulna and one from Sylhet division.

Also, 1,567 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, with a 92.48% recovery rate.

The Covid-19 victims’ gender breakdown shows that 9,113 of the total deceased across the country were men and 3,506 were women.

The country’s maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
