Easterntimes, Special Correspondent, Dhaka, 21 October: Bangladesh confirmed 24 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
The country’s death toll from the virus now stands at 5,723, said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
In the last 24 hours, 1,545 people tested positive for Covid-19 and the number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 3, 93,131.
Among the deceased, 19 were men and five were women. Moreover, 17 of them hailed from Dhaka, three each from Chattogram, two from Rajshahi, and one each from Khulna and Rangpur divisions.
23 of them died in different hospitals while one died at home.
In the last 24 hours, 14,086 samples were tested in 106 labs across the country. With this, 22,06,411 samples have been tested in the country so far.
The latest day’s infection rate was 10.97% of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 17.82%. The death rate stands at 1.44%.
In the past 24 hours, 1,704 patients were declared free of Covid-19, raising the total number of recoveries to 272,073 with a 78.56% recovery rate.
The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows that 4,404 of the total deceased were men, and 1,319 were women.
The country’s maiden cases were reported on March 8 this year and the first death from the virus was reported on March 18.
