Bangladesh again extends virus lockdown to May 30 eases curbs on long-haul buses

Eastern Times Correspondent, Dhaka, 23 May 2021: The Bangladesh government has extended the ongoing countrywide lockdown till 30 May midnight to curb the Covid-19 spread allowing inter-district public transports to run and restaurants to serve customers.

The Cabinet Division issued a gazette notification in this regard Sunday.

All kinds of public transports, including, inter-district buses, have been allowed to operate carrying passengers with 50 percent of their capacity. All passengers, drivers and helpers will have to wear masks and maintain health rules.

Besides, the restaurants can serve customers with 50 percent of their seating arrangements.

As the coronavirus situation took a severe turn in Bangladesh at the beginning of April, the government enforced a seven-day lockdown from April 5 across the country to stem the tide of the viral disease.

The country went into an eight-day strict lockdown from April 14.

Later, the strict lockdown was extended till 23 May in phases.
