Australian MPs express concern over ‘undemocratic’ political situation in Bangladesh

Easterntimes, Special Correspondent, Dhaka, 16 October : Member of the Australian parliament David Shoebridge is going to serve a notice regarding latest political situations in Bangladesh.

In the notice as observations he mentioned that the European Union had described the 2018 national elections in Bangladesh as marred by violence and having significant obstacles to a level playing field in the country.

Human Right Watch had reported continuous enforced disappearances of the people in government custody.

The UK Parliament had discussed politically biased imprisonment of Bangladeshi leader Khaleda Zia and expressed their concern regarding next general elections.

There has been appalling spate of sexual assaults in Bangladesh, some linked to the student wing of the government party.

The notice said that this house should calls the federal government to apple to the Bangladeshi government to restore democracy and human rights in the country.

Call for immediate release of all political prisoners including Khaleda Zia and fair judicial process for all.

Encourage Bangladeshi government to hold a free and fair general election to reflect the people’s free will in the country.
