100th Days of World's LargestPeaceful Protests by Indian Farmers

Eastern Taimes, New Delhi : It has been 100 days since the world’s largest, peaceful protests were started by Indian farmers at the doorsteps of Delhi under the leadership of Samyukt Kisan Morcha. To mark the completion of hundred days, Saturday (March 6) will be marked as a Black Day in addition to a 5-hour blockade of KMP expressway.

Samyukt Kisan Morcha joined Kirti Kisan Union Punjab and family of (late) Datar Singh in paying rich tributes to the departed leader for his rich contributions to people’s organisations and the ongoing movement.
Datar Singh, President of Kirti Kisan Union Punjab passed away in Amritsar in the middle of a public meeting on 21st February 2021 after a heart attack. In a large obituary meeting organised in Amritsar on Friday, SKM leadership respectfully acknowledged his contributions to this and other movements and resolved to take forward the agitation.

The farmers have been going on a sit-in strike in Chhatarpur in Madhya Pradesh for 87 days. The police and administration had not given permission to set up tents nor provided any other assistance.

A mahapanchayat was organized here on March 3 and 4, after which permission has been given to install tents.

Delhi Police’s excesses were displayed yet again recently. A group of women in the leadership of Manjeet Kaur Dobka left from singhu to Rakabganj Gurudwara on Wednesday night to spend the night there. Just because they had flags on their cars of Nishan Sahib and Kisan Union, their vehicle was stopped near the outer ring road check post of Delhi police.

They were asked to remove the flags from their Tempo Travel. When they refused to do so, they were detained at Tilak Marg Police Station. The group also included a toddler of 2 years age, named Yasmi Kaur, from Barnala.

As per the law no child below the age of 7 shall be detained at a police station; secondly, no woman shall be detained at a police station after sunset. Clearly, Delhi Police’s actions are illegal and SKM condemns the same.
